Quotable

A few quotes worth remembering…

We’re walking through the grocery store and Cage is wearing his Superman tee and cape. Of course a few people comment on it and Cage turns to me and says “everyone knows my name!” Such a celebrity!

As I’m trying to coax Cage out of bed he asks, “where are we going?”. I tell him school, and he asks why like he does everyday. So I tell him it’s so his brain doesn’t shrivel up, it needs to get big and filled with knowledge!
He says “but then my hat won’t fit!”

After planting squash next to our strawberries and talking about all the stuff he’s planted at Grandma’s, I asked Cage what we should plant next. Without hesitation he shouts “cookies!”

Happy Father’s Day!

We, as planned, had a busy Father’s Day. I took Cage to breakfast with my parents at Harvey Field – which was awesome for a three year old. Eating outside while watching planes, helicopters, and parachutes fly by was mesmerizing. Cage loved it and so did Grandpa and Grandma, definitely going there again. Then while Adam took Cage to his dad’s for lunch, I got busy. Cleaned the outdoor furniture and patio, weeded, mowed and assembled Adam’s new BBQ (surprise!). In my rush I was out mowing in sandals and a dress (ridiculous I know) and yanked the extension cord to the right, it chose left and thus committed suicide under the lawn mower. Thank goodness for awesome friends like Mary who picked me up a new 100 yard cord- I’m now ready for anything. Slight hiccup when the propane tank was leaking and it took us a solid (sunny) hour to figure out it was the BBQ. So back to the store I go, with Danny in tow because I don’t speak propane regulators. Finally home and BBQing at 6:30 – in the rain. At least it was delicious!

Super Dad

Laurie and Cage got Adam a new Superman Tee for Father’s Day – which of course Cage couldn’t wait til Sunday to give him or to demand he put it on immediately.

Jamie’s Bach Weekend

I usually only post family stuff on here, since Jamie is practically family it seemed appropriate to share a few pics from our weekend in Chelan. The house (and its view) was amazing and wine tasting was a blast. There was no cheesey bachelorette stuffs, as pet instructions, just lots of wine and sun!

Report Card

Cage got his first official report card today. It listed all the reading, writing and math skills he’s mastered and it was pretty impressive! Kiddo has some solid (pre) reading skills and can count like crazy. Just gotta work on his handwriting, which is not surprising since he writes like he’s trying to slay paper with the pencil and his scissor work us down right frightening. I’m thinking it’s just a fine motor skills development thing, either that or he’ll be a doctor one day ;)

Perspective

So there’s no way to sugar coat that we’ve lost a lot if family lately, Grandma Fid in January, Grandpa Dixon the following week, then great aunt Sylvia, my uncle Bruce and then just this week my Aunt Lynne. It’s been rough.
So this morning Cage randomly asks “Mommy, how does your heart feel?” Which leads to quite the in depth conversation for a 3 year old. We talked awhile and he was all smiles as he talked about playing with Poppa and sharing snacks with Gram. He could tell me they aren’t here anymore, but he just kept talking about the good stuff.
So I tried to do the same. It still sucks, it still hurts, but talking about good stuff certainly helps.
I’m thinking my boy might make a good counselor one day, either that or a superhero – maybe both?

Great Grandma Day

That’s what I’m deeming today to be seeing as we picked up Grandma Dixon, then drove down to hang with Grandma Sparks for the day. It was great to chat with Jean on the long drive and now I know where Adam gets his sense of humor from. And Cage entertained us all while Jean and Evie got caught up. They had some pretty good stories, but then again they’ve been friend for 5 decades!

Hoppy Easter

Easter started yesterday with an egg hunt at Heatherwood Middle School. Really it’s just a dash Andover in about 20 seconds, but Cage loves it. Grandma came over after and gave him bubbles in his basket and had her working the bubble gin for a solid hour.
Today we did baskets at home before heading to Laurie’s where he had his own personal hunt – so spoiled!

Play Mate

What’s a puppy to do after playing with a 3 year old all day? Build herself a pillow fort and pass the heck out.
